Administrative clerk

COTTLE’S ISLAND LUMBER COMPANY LIMITED based in Summerford, NL is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Administrative clerk who are self-motivated and have good interpersonal skills. Cottles Island Lumber Company Ltd. is a family-owned business founded by the Philpott family of Cottles Island more than 40 years ago (now Cottlesville). Mr. Ralph Philpott, or ‘Uncle Ralph,’ as he was affectionately known by all in the community, was first and foremost a captain. He spent 36 years navigating the waters off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador in the fishing and freighting industries. Uncle Ralph, like most Newfoundlanders at the time, was well-versed in the concept of “multi-tasking.”

The fishery was an unforgiving and unpredictable business, so he put his hand to work at whatever was in demand, and wood products were always in demand in Newfoundland. From window sashes and clapboard to matched lumber for sheathing or floors, wood was sawn for every part of a house. The fishing industry also created a consistent demand for wood products. Sawmills were kept busy by timbers, planks, and material for wharves, stages, and fishing traps.

Sawing these custom products required attention to detail and quality; after all, the home or boat builder to whose hands the product would be delivered was usually the home or boat owner. It was in this environment that Cottles’ business approach was charted.

Cottle’s carries construction lumber and timbers, cottage kits, decking, siding, panelling, flooring, wood chips, and wood pellets. Cottles is more than just lumber! We transform the world’s best softwood fibre into high-quality building products that can be used to clad, panel, or floor your building project. We’ll keep you warm once you’re inside with our fuel pellets and seasoned firewood. And, yes, we do manufacture lumber. Our lumber’s quality is unrivalled and rarely matched. Access to high-quality raw materials, a commitment to uncompromising quality, and complete control over our process, from harvesting to packaging, ensure that when you bring Cottles into your home, you are bringing the best. Cottles’ products are made from thermally treated Black Spruce grown in northern Newfoundland.

The lumber is manufactured in our own sawmill and has excellent strength characteristics. The product has a very lively and rich appearance due to the tight growth rings. Thermal treatment improves wood stability and resistance to rot and decay caused by bacteria and fungi. It is a very natural and chemical-free building product that can be used both indoors and outdoors. The candidate who got selected will be required to start work as soon as possible. The vacancies refer to Permanent employment or Full time job. The selected candidate will be required to work during the day shift.
