Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed financial and statistical reports, as well as submissions to external agencies.
- The candidate will analyze budgets versus actual expenditures and provide proactive insights to support departmental financial performance.
- The candidate will recommend process improvements to enhance the efficiency of financial systems.
- The candidate will lead or supervise accounting functions while maintaining a collaborative working approach.
- The candidate will perform complex reconciliations and maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records.
- The candidate will support a workplace culture focused on accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must hold a CPA designation (or equivalent) and demonstrate strong commitment to accounting.
- The candidate must possess considerable experience in financial analysis, internal controls, and accounting practices, preferably in a municipal setting.
- The candidate must possess advanced Excel skills to support financial analysis, reporting, and data management.
- The candidate must demonstrate strong analytical skills with the ability to transform data into meaningful information.
- The candidate must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate a collaborative approach to work.
- The candidate must possess supervisory experience.
- The candidate must demonstrate thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and other software and equipment used in the role.
- The candidate must demonstrate considerable knowledge of accounting principles and practices applicable to the position.
- The candidate must demonstrate considerable knowledge of policies related to the work performed.
- The candidate must demonstrate considerable knowledge of financial systems, business processes, procedures, and methods.
- The candidate must demonstrate sound knowledge of methods, standards, and regulations applicable to municipal accounting and financial operations.
- The candidate must be able to prepare and maintain detailed and complex reports and analyses.
- The candidate must be able to research and recommend improvements to accounting and internal control procedures.
- The candidate must be able to plan, organize, direct, and review the work of subordinate staff.
- The candidate must be able to process financial information accurately and efficiently.
- The candidate must be able to perform complex reconciliations accurately and efficiently.
- The candidate must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- The candidate must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
- The candidate must possess a recognized professional accounting designation along with considerable experience in financial analysis and financial control, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- The candidate must be registered with a professional accounting society as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
