Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for providing direct supervision, mentorship, and training to Assistant Environmental Electronic Technicians in all areas of the Weather Network Program.
- The candidate will be required to seek input and feedback from team members while promoting effective teamwork.
- The candidate will be required to share operational information and keep the team informed of possible outcomes and updates.
- The candidate will be required to establish clear expectations for work assignments.
- The candidate will be responsible for ensuring assignments are manageable and that staff have the tools, training, and equipment required to perform successfully.
- The candidate will be required to ensure training requirements are met for both themselves and their direct reports while following safe work procedures.
- The candidate will be responsible for developing and evaluating performance plans while providing frequent and constructive feedback.
- The candidate will be responsible for all HR-related duties, including time management and reporting, hiring and recruitment, and ongoing performance evaluations.
- The candidate will be responsible for determining the equipment, financial, and human resource requirements needed to complete routine projects and work assignments efficiently.
- The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate collection of data and information.
- The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the Regional weather station network operates with a high degree of reliability.
- The candidate will be responsible for preparing a wide range of documentation, including statistical reports, updated site logs, and project reports.
- The candidate will be responsible for maintaining network documentation and inventory tracking records.
- The candidate will be responsible for administrating and troubleshooting computer-based and data logger control systems.
- The candidate will be responsible for providing technical advice, field support, and training related to the fabrication and maintenance of electronic equipment.
- The candidate will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance on Ministry weather station installations remotely and through on-site visits.
- The candidate will be responsible for delegating tasks to the Assistant Environmental Electronic Technician when required.
- The candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating construction installation projects related to new weather stations and station networks.
- The candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting communication and display issues associated with road condition message signs interfacing with RWS weather stations.
- The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of electronic components related to provincial remote avalanche control and avalanche detection systems.
- The candidate will be responsible for researching and developing alternative and emerging technologies to improve network reliability and efficiency.
- The candidate will be responsible for installing and maintaining camera systems used by stakeholders and the travelling public.
- The candidate will be responsible for configuring computer and network hardware and software, including third-party devices and drivers.
- The candidate will be responsible for creating maintenance, assembly, installation, and troubleshooting procedures.
- The candidate will be responsible for determining equipment performance requirements and recommending suitable equipment selections.
- The candidate will be responsible for inspecting the work completed by the Assistant EET, direct reports, and contractors.
- The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development of safe travel plans for accessing remote sensing stations in avalanche terrain.
Job Requirements
- The candidate will be required to hold a Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology or a related discipline and have 2 years of related work experience.
- The candidate will be required to have a High School Diploma and three years of related experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- The candidate must have experience working with industry grade electronics and control systems.
- The candidate must have experience in electronics instrumentation, preferably within the WNP or another weather network.
- The candidate must have experience with environmental data acquisition, including data collection, analysis, and application.
- The candidate must have experience working outdoors in an alpine environment and harsh winter conditions in a comparable or similar capacity.
- The candidate must have a basic understanding of electronics coding languages and their applications.
- The candidate must have experience working with dataloggers and sensing equipment.
- Preference may be given to applicants who have completed the Canadian Avalanche Association Resource Transportation Avalanche Management Course or an equivalent program.
- Candidates with a minimum Level 1 First Aid qualification may be preferred for the role.
- Candidates with Basic Fall Protection Course certification may be given preference.
- Candidates with Bucket Truck Operation Course certification may be given preference.
- Candidates with project management experience may be given preference.
- The candidate must have a valid Class 5 B.C. Driverโs Licence.
- The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
