Job Description

  • The candidate will be expected to sew by hand or use sewing machines.
  • The candidate must lay out, cut, fabricate, and install upholstery.
  • The candidate will be responsible for replacing worn-out webbing, springs, and other furniture components.
  • The candidate must repair furniture frames and refinish wood surfaces.
  • The candidate will be expected to meet with customers and discuss upholstery fabric, colour, and style, as well as provide a cost estimate.
  • The candidate must tack, glue, or sew ornamental trim, braids, or buttons.
  • The candidate will be responsible for measuring and preparing patterns for the furniture frame.
  • The candidate will be responsible for restoring and reupholstering old furniture.
  • The candidate will be expected to create patterns for manufacturing as well as samples for trade shows.
  • The candidate will be required to dismantle furniture in order to prepare it for upholstery.
  • The candidate will be responsible for installing foam and batting to the furniture framework.
  • The candidate will be responsible for installing and repairing furniture webbing and seating springs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for stretching out and installing fabric or leather coverings.
  • The candidate will be responsible for conducting quality checks on completed orders.
  • The candidate will be required to conduct routine maintenance of work tools and upholstery machine
  • The candidate will be required to finish upholstered furniture by attaching ornament trims, buttons, buckles, and grommets
  • The candidate will be required to examine furniture frames, springs, and webbings to identify defects
  • The candidate will be required to study work orders to determine the amount and type of materials required to cover work pieces
  • The candidate will be required to measure and cut materials using manual or automated cutting instruments
  • The candidate will be in charge of loading work pieces and materials onto production machinery.
  • The candidate’s responsibilities will include coordinating with interior designers to decorate and furnish rooms.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of upholstery techniques by monitoring the upholstery industry to identify trends.
  • The candidate will be required to interact with clients to discuss preferences such as upholstery color, fabric, and style.
  • The candidate will be expected to conduct cost estimates in order to assess project requirements and to ensure that projects are completed within specified time frames.
  • The candidate will be needed to use chalks, pencils, paint, or other markers to outline cutting lines on fabrics.
  • The candidate will be required to read work orders and maintain database of production status for communication with outside clients as well as in-house sales managers
  • The candidate will be required to apply and install batting, foam, poly-filler, and cut cloth to timber framework in the assembly of hand-crafted furniture using power and hand tools.
  • The candidate will be required to operate portable hand-sewing equipment, nail guns, hobnail and tack hammers, hot-knife cutters and other industrial equipment
  • The candidate will be required to discuss complications or assembly line slow-downs with supervisors and brainstorm solutions for increased productivity
  • The candidate will be required to cover wooden frame with soft materials such as cotton, felt pad, fiber or foam to improve texture and appearance.
  • The candidate will be responsible for using their upholstery skills to construct or repair upholstered furniture with a variety of hand and power equipment.
