Job Description

• The candidate will be responsible for providing safe, competent, ethical, and evidence-informed nursing care in accordance with BCCNM Standards of Practice.
• The candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive physical and mental health assessments and monitoring ongoing changes in client condition.
• The candidate will be responsible for recognizing, interpreting, and responding to changes in mental or physical status while escalating concerns appropriately.
• The candidate will be responsible for documenting all assessments, observations, interventions, and evaluations in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
• The candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and revising individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with young people, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
• The candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships based on trauma-informed practice and least-restrictive care principles.
• The candidate will be responsible for administering prescribed medications and treatments while following medication safety standards.
• The candidate will be responsible for processing physician orders and preparing and maintaining Medication Administration Records (MARs).
• The candidate will be responsible for providing direct client care, including support with activities of daily living (ADLs), nutrition, mobility, sexuality-related considerations, and therapeutic leisure activities.
• The candidate will be responsible for implementing behavioural support strategies and responding to crises by applying clinical judgment and organizational protocols.
• The candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment and following emergency procedures to protect the safety of clients and staff.
• The candidate will be responsible for gathering, synthesizing, and analyzing client information across biological, psychological, social, and cultural domains.
• The candidate will be responsible for preparing comprehensive assessment reports that identify priority care needs.
• The candidate will be responsible for providing therapeutic counselling and psychoeducation to support emotional regulation, functional improvement, and recovery.
• The candidate will be responsible for teaching life skills that support rehabilitation, independence, and successful community reintegration.
• The candidate must protect client rights, identify advocacy issues, and bring concerns forward in accordance with professional standards.
• The candidate will be responsible for coordinating internal and external medical and mental health appointments and escorting clients as required.
• The candidate will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining clinical supplies and resources within the unit.
• The candidate will be responsible for participating in committees, including policy and procedure review, clinical practice councils, and occupational health and safety committees, while contributing professional nursing expertise.
• The candidate will be responsible for engaging in ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance clinical competence in alignment with BCCNM expectations.
• The candidate will be responsible for supporting quality improvement initiatives and contributing to safe and effective care practices.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• The candidate must have one (1) year or more of work experience in the field of adolescent psychiatry.
• Preference may be given to applicants with experience working with adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Preference may be given to candidates who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
• The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
