GFL Environmental Inc., located at 7 Superior Crescent, Charlottetown, PE C1E 2A1. The company is currently looking for applications for the role of Truck driver. We are in search of a self-disciplined individual with outstanding interpersonal skills. The selected applicant will be required to join and take on their responsibilities at the earliest. The open positions are for a Term or contract, or a full-time job. The timings of shifts may be Early morning, Morning, Day, Evening, Weekend, On-call, Flexible hours and Overtime.

Job Description

  • The candidate must plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
  • The candidate must maintain professionalism in customer service.
  • The candidate must load and unload goods.
  • The candidate must operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
  • The candidate must inspect the vehicle’s condition, including the brakes, tires, lights, and other essential components.
  • The candidate must perform brake adjustments.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections, as well as overseeing all vehicle aspects.
  • The candidate must perform preventive maintenance.
  • The candidate will be responsible for receiving and relaying information to central dispatch.
  • The candidate will be responsible for recording cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
  • The candidate will be responsible for tarping and ensuring cargo safety and security.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 2 to 3 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have a Driver’s License (Class 3 or D).
  • The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must be flexible.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.
  • The candidate must be capable of acting independently and taking the initiative.

Work site environment

  • The candidate must be able to work in wet/damp conditions, as well as in hot and cold/refrigerated environments.
  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.
  • The candidate must work in an environment with a high concentration of odours.

Work setting

  • The candidate must work in various locations to support employees stationed at different worksites.

Experience and specialization

Documentation knowledge

  • The candidate must be knowledgeable about accident or incident reports, inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip), maintenance and repair reports and trip reports.

Transportation/travel experience

  • The candidate must have travel experience in the local area.
  • The candidate must have short-haul travel experience.

Security and safety

  • The candidate must undergo a driverโ€™s licence validity check and a driving record check (abstract).
