Job Description

  • The candidate will be required to manage a multi-shift Cannabis Retail Store operation with regular and auxiliary staff.
  • The candidate will be required to ensure strong social responsibility is maintained across all consumer-focused activities.
  • The candidate will be required to contribute to the department’s overall sales targets from a store and online perspective.
  • The candidate will be required to review and analyze all aspects of the store’s operation and manage improvements where required.
  • The candidate will be required to provide guidance and direction to staff to implement improvements, communicate and apply LDB policies, procedures and regulations, and recommend changes to LDB policy while implementing procedural changes.
  • The candidate will be required to review, provide input, and monitor the store budget and costs, examine variances, and implement appropriate courses of action.
  • The candidate will be required to apply the various acts (Cannabis Act and their respective regulations) and Main and Component Collective Agreements.
  • The candidate will be required to manage and administer service contracts for store maintenance activities such as landscaping, janitorial work, plumbing, and waste management.
  • The candidate will be required to maximize revenue through merchandising and customer relations, guide staff in improving merchandising techniques, and determine, implement, and change retailing programs including display, fixture, and layout changes.
  • The candidate will be required to monitor sales, stock levels, and trends in particular products or brands and work with Merchandising Replenishment Analysts to maximize results.
  • The candidate will be required to maintain and exceed customer experience expectations and guide staff in ongoing improvement of selling techniques and customer relationship building.
  • The candidate will be required to provide leadership and direction to staff, control costs, and ensure safety of the store, staff, and assets.
  • The candidate will be required to develop and train store staff through various individual and group training methods.
  • The candidate will be required to ensure that the objectives of the LDB are met in terms of customer service, product knowledge, control of assets, and sales.
  • The candidate will be required to perform human resources functions including supervision, recruitment, hiring, discipline, authorizing leave, approving overtime, and formally appraising employee performance.
  • The candidate will be required to review the store’s performance and operating procedures, organize workloads and work schedules, and resolve related problems.
  • The candidate will be required to develop the safety risk assessment for the store and maintain adequate security at all times, including application of Corporate Loss Prevention and Store Operations policies and directives.
  • The candidate will be required to assist the LDB Corporate Loss Prevention department in its investigations of cash or stock losses by providing required information.
  • The candidate will be required to work with the Regional Manager in the development of operational plans to meet the broader objectives of the LDB Cannabis Division business plan.
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with 2ID policy by requesting two pieces of identification to verify proof of age in accordance with legal requirements.
  • The candidate will be required to perform other related duties.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have a secondary (high) school diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of three (3) years of recent, related experience leading a team within a customer-facing retail operation, along with experience in customer service and asset management.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with a degree, diploma, or certificate in business or retail management.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience working in a government or regulatory environment.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience working in the cannabis industry.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with formal coursework in cannabis from an accredited post-secondary institution.

Work conditions

  • The candidate will be required to work in office, retail, and warehouse locations.
  • The candidate will be required to perform shift work, including evenings and weekends.
  • The candidate will be required to travel overnight within the Province of British Columbia.
