Safety Technician

Safety Technician supports Occupational Health and Safety operations by helping manage safety systems, records and technical safety activities. This role helps keep workplace safety programs running smoothly through administrative support and field based assessments.

In this position, you will back up Safety Advisors and Operations Leaders, handle safety data, help coordinate trial and practice sessions. You will also help with evaluations and personal protective equipment fit testing. This role fits best if you like doing desk work but you are also comfortable going out to the field areas.

Job Description

  • Safety Technician supports Occupational Health and Safety programs and daily safety operations.
  • Full time position with permanent and temporary openings available.
  • The routine is five days per week with one day off every three week cycle.
  • The position includes office duties and field visits with flexible work from home options based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Update safety systems with project, performance and incident data.
  • Support employees with safety system use and requirements.
  • Prepare reports, maintain records and manage document folders.
  • Track testing, assessments and training activities.
  • Arrange meetings, inspections, audits and review sessions.
  • Record meeting minutes and monitor completion reports.
  • Assist with audit documents and safety records.
  • Perform fit testing for personal protective equipment.
  • Teach users about proper selection, use, storage and maintenance of protective equipment.
  • Verify correct use of protective equipment.
  • Do ergonomic assessments and suggest suitable furniture.

Requirements

  • Finish a one year certificate course in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Certificate for Occupational Hygiene, Ergonomics, Business Administration or a closely related discipline is also accepted.
  • Have at least 3 years of related work background.
  • A Canadian Registered Safety Technician certification is considered an asset.
  • Can explain technical safety information clearly to different audiences.
  • Have strong problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills.
  • Have excellent attention to detail.
  • Can work in office settings and field locations where personal protective equipment may be required.
  • Obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit.
  • Provide proof of qualifications before employment.
  • Pass a pre employment drug test, including testing for cannabis.
