Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for supporting the planning, scheduling, and delivery of sport and outdoor recreation programs, events, and community activations.
- The candidate will be responsible for providing on-site support and guidance to instructors, staff, and volunteers.
- The candidate will be responsible for assisting with staff and volunteer onboarding, training, selection, and evaluation.
- The candidate will be responsible for preparing program materials, equipment, and supplies to support program readiness.
- The candidate will be responsible for assisting with program set-up, take-down, and daily operational support.
- The candidate will be responsible for responding to participant and public inquiries and providing positive customer service.
- The candidate will be responsible for monitoring program activities and providing feedback on logistics and delivery requirements.
- The candidate will be responsible for promoting safe participation through the enforcement of rules and outdoor and recreation safety practices.
- The candidate will be responsible for providing minor first aid and reporting complex safety or operational issues as required.
- The candidate will be responsible for inspecting facilities, outdoor spaces, and equipment for safety, security, and maintenance concerns.
- The candidate will be responsible for assisting with supply ordering, equipment inventory, and basic budget monitoring.
- The candidate will be responsible for preparing and maintaining program records, reports, correspondence, and promotional materials.
- The candidate will be responsible for reviewing basic marketing and website content for programs and events.
- The candidate will be responsible for travelling between sites and transporting supplies and equipment as required.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must have sound knowledge of the social, cultural, sport, fitness, youth, general interest, and recreational needs within the community.
- The candidate must have sound knowledge of community recreation principles, practices, and objectives.
- The candidate must have working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and recreational instruction.
- The candidate must have working knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures, and policies governing the work, as well as modern office methods and procedures.
- The candidate must be able to plan, develop, and coordinate programs and activities and provide leadership and instruction under a superior’s direction and approval within established program frameworks.
- The candidate must be able to assist a superior in coordinating and administering the operations of a centre.
- The candidate must be able to recruit, train, and provide onsite supervision to volunteers and contract instructors.
- The candidate must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community members, community leaders, community partners, and internal contacts.
- The candidate must be able to prepare and maintain correspondence, records, reports, publicity and promotional material, perform related clerical tasks as required, and review and edit marketing materials and websites.
- The candidate must be able to supervise and/or participate in various recreational and social activities.
- The candidate must demonstrate skill in the safe and proper use of a variety of equipment used in the programs.
- The candidate must have completed a two-year recreation program at a recognized community college and possess sound related community recreation experience, along with some supervisory or leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
- The candidate must hold a valid Standard First Aid Certificate and CPRC.
