Job Description
- The candidate will be required to perform duties in accordance with the IBEW Collective Agreement.
- The candidate will undertake work related to communications, protection, and control equipment and systems as assigned.
- The candidate will perform maintenance on protection, communication, and control systems, including equipment used to detect and respond to power system faults and manage system operations.
- The candidate will be responsible for installing and maintaining substation equipment, generator control systems, excitation systems, and governors.
- The candidate will install and maintain protective protective relaying equipment for detecting and responding to power system faults, and control
equipment including scada systems and programmable logic controllers. - The candidate will be responsible for installing and maintaining telecommunications equipment such as microwave systems, power line carrier systems, VHF/UHF radio systems, teleprotection systems, telephone, and supervisory control & data acquisition equipment.
- The candidate will analyze fault records to verify equipment performance and oversee testing of plant equipment.
- The candidate will be required to prepare and maintain technical reports.
- The candidate will commission and conduct acceptance testing for new and upgraded equipment installations.
- The candidate will review and maintain drawings related to protection, control, and communication systems.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must meet the requirements outlined in the IBEW Collective Agreement.
- The candidate must have completed a national diploma in electrical or electronics engineering technology from an accredited institution, preferably with a power or communications specialization.
- The candidate must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
- The candidate must hold a valid Communications, Protection & Control Certificate.
- The candidate must be eligible for registration with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC).
- The candidate must demonstrate computer literacy in English.
- The candidate should possess strong mechanical aptitude.
- The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and be capable of working effectively with employees, customers, and other trades such as electricians, mechanics, and technologists.
- The candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and safe work practices.
- The candidate should have a minimum of two (2) years of field experience in Protection & Control and/or Telecommunication Technology in a utility or substation environment.
- The candidate must be capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- The candidate must be able to collaborate effectively within a team and across functional groups.

- The candidate will work in a field-based environment involving highly technical systems and equipment.
- The candidate may be required to travel to adjacent work areas as needed.
- The candidate may be required to travel using helicopters or snow machines to access remote sites.
- The candidate may be required to work in confined spaces.
- The candidate will work full-time hours of 37.5 hours per week.
- The candidate will be required to work in remote locations and may receive applicable incentives.
