Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for performing all work required to construct, repair, and maintain transmission and distribution lines on poles, towers, and other structures. Responsibilities include patrolling circuits, completing assigned inspections, carrying out emergency repairs, repairing street lights, making distribution transformer connections, investigating customer complaints and service interruptions, installing and removing meters notwithstanding the duties assigned to a Meter Technician, maintaining familiarity with transmission lines and the distribution portion of substations, refusing transformers and disconnects, making collections, connecting and disconnecting services, and operating or switching lines.
- The candidate must not operate any station apparatus equipped with supervisory control while working as a Power Line Technician, including when designated as a Person In Charge (P.I.C.).
- The candidate will be responsible for undertaking the framing, erection, stringing, and termination of all wire buses and overhead lines supported by strain-type insulators in outdoor substations.
- The candidate will be responsible for performing work on plastic insulated cables and accessories up to and including 20/35 kV, notwithstanding the duties assigned to a Power Cable Technician.
- The candidate will be responsible for operating hole digging attachments, pole-setting equipment, and related equipment installed on line trucks.
- The candidate will be responsible for serving as the designated Person In Charge (P.I.C.) for the operation of distribution lines or circuits rated at 35 kV and below that are not under the direct control of an Area Control Station or generating station, in accordance with local operating orders issued by BC Hydro.
- The candidate will be responsible for issuing instructions that provide safety assurances for employees working on or near distribution lines and circuits while serving as the Person In Charge (P.I.C.).
- The candidate will be responsible for dealing with area electrical disturbances, maintaining logs and other records, and keeping the system mimic display board up to date.
- The candidate will be responsible for operating and switching distribution equipment in distribution supply stations rated 35 kV and below, up to but not including the feeder bus, notwithstanding the duties assigned to an Electrician.
- The candidate will be responsible for switching or replacing fuses in 35 kV and above distribution supply stations when fault conditions occur and an Electrician is not readily available.
- The candidate will be responsible for installing and maintaining distribution automation equipment, including battery replacement, modem replacement, and power resets, notwithstanding the duties normally assigned to a Communication, Protection and Control Technologist. Communication, Protection and Control Technologists retain jurisdiction for this work.
- The candidate will be responsible for completing feeder pulling and splicing projects within underground distribution systems.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must meet the requirements as outlined in the IBEW Collective Agreement.
- The candidate must hold a trade qualification as a Journeyperson Power Line Technician with an Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate or have the qualifications required to obtain one.
- The candidate must possess a valid Class 3 driver’s license with an airbrake endorsement.

- The candidate will be required to participate in a standby rotation for this position.
- The candidate will be required to live within 30 km of the LMS headquarters as their primary residence.
