Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for performing a wide variety of manual tasks in the construction and maintenance of park areas across sections such as Horticulture, Natural Areas, Maintenance, Urban Forestry, and Construction.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing horticultural, natural areas, and urban forestry activities such as planting, watering, pruning, weeding, propagation, general plant health care, and integrated pest management for turf and various native and non-native plant and tree species.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing carpentry and landscape construction tasks related to installation and structural maintenance of playgrounds, buildings, bridges, stairs, signs, furniture, structures, parking lots, landscape areas, drainage, trails, and other park infrastructure.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining parks, landscape areas, sports turf, facilities, parking lots, and other park infrastructure.
  • The candidate will be responsible for operating and performing routine maintenance on a wide range of manual and motorized tools and equipment used in Parks operations.
  • The candidate will be responsible for cleaning and servicing washrooms and collecting litter in park areas.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining work-related records both electronically and manually.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing training to other staff.
  • The candidate will be responsible for reading basic information from plans, blueprints, and schematics.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing other related duties as required.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have completed Grade 12 or an equivalent level of education.
  • The candidate will be required to have completed one accredited course relevant to Parks Division work from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of six months of recent experience working in parks maintenance or related field.
  • The candidate must hold a valid BC Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate (Landscape or Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed category).
  • The candidate must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

  • The candidate must provide a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS).

  • The candidate must be physically capable of performing all required duties, including maintaining adequate stamina and coordination.
  • The candidate must be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
