Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • Candidates with recent emergency nursing experience are preferred.
  • The candidate must be a graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing programme.
  • The candidate must be certified in I.V. Therapy, I.V. Medication Administration, Physical Assessment, Intramuscular Injection, and Urinary Catheterization.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM).
  • The candidate must possess a current basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate.
  • The candidate should be familiar with the Manitoba College of Licensed Practical Nurses Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • The candidate should be familiar with the Manitoba College of Licensed Practical Nurses’ Code of Ethics for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • The candidate should be familiar with the scope of practise as defined by the Licensed Practical Nurses Act.
  • The ideal candidate will be familiar with Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • The candidate should be knowledgeable in nursing care and clinical areas.
  • The candidate should be familiar with the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), the Protection of Persons in Care Act, the Mental Health Act, the Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), the Principles of Routine Practice (Universal Precautions), and other laws.
  • The candidate must be familiar with the roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
  • The candidate should be familiar with delegation principles.
  • The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication.
  • The candidate should be able to prioritise care for a single patient or a group of patients.
  • The candidate should be able to delegate care appropriately and monitor the outcomes of that care.
  • The candidate should be able to respond to a variety of concurrent demands.
  • The candidate should be able to identify and pursue opportunities for self-development.
  • The candidate should be able to work independently as well as as part of a healthcare team.
  • The candidate should be able to quickly adapt to changing situations.
  • The candidate should be able to concentrate despite frequent interruptions.
