City of Maple Ridge is located at Maple Ridge, BC. The company is currently looking for applications for the role of Labourer (Cleaning Team). We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible. This is a temporary full-time position for approximately six (6) months which may be extended or concluded at any time.

Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for playing a vital role in cleaning and maintaining the City’s downtown core through various maintenance activities.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing litter pickup and removal, graffiti removal, pressure washing, sign and street furniture maintenance, and vegetation removal duties.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and materials used in civil construction and municipal maintenance work.
  • The candidate must be able to understand, follow, and effectively communicate oral and written instructions provided by supervisors to fellow employees.
  • The candidate will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the safe use of various hand tools and power equipment used in maintenance activities.
  • The candidate must be able to maintain simple records related to completed work activities.
  • The candidate must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies as required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate independent judgment and the ability to complete assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • The candidate must have knowledge of and the ability to operate small rollers, power saws, jack hammers, oil sprayers, vibrators, concrete mixers, and light-duty trucks.
  • The candidate must possess a valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver’s Licence with a safe driving record.
  • The candidate must have considerable experience in civil construction and municipal maintenance work.
  • The candidate must have some training and knowledge in operating small power equipment, including saws and rollers.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who can work successfully with a crew, complete assigned duties efficiently, and apply knowledge of road maintenance practices.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience operating light and medium-duty trucks.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who can complete a variety of skilled and general labour duties while adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience operating power tools such as pressure washers, weed trimmers, brushing trimmers, and cut-off saws.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who can communicate effectively and maintain positive relationships with the public.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who hold a valid B.C. Class 3 Driver’s Licence with an air brake endorsement or have experience operating heavy equipment.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

  • The candidate must possess sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • The candidate will be required to work in potentially hazardous conditions and apply specialized skills to complete assigned duties safely and effectively.
  • The candidate will be required to work Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., as outlined in the Letter of Understanding.
