Job Description
- A Laboratory Technologist I performs laboratory testing and assists with diagnostic services.
- Temporary call in role based in person at Burin Peninsula Health Centre, Newfoundland and Labrador.
- The work schedule will cover all three main sections of Biochemistry and Hematology and Transfusion Medicine and Microbiology.
- The work schedule will be determined by the department’s operational needs and its established scheduling standards.
- The laboratory work occurs within a hospital environment which prioritizes procedures that protect patient safety.
- The job requires performance of laboratory tests and blood collection through phlebotomy and writing of test results documentation.
Responsibilities
- The laboratory tests for both standard and advanced testing procedures will be conducted on patient specimens.
- Process patients through their complete testing process which includes biochemistry and hematology and transfusion medicine procedures.
- Obtain blood specimens through phlebotomy whenever it becomes necessary.
- Run quality control procedures and record results.
- Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments.
- Maintain accurate documentation for tests and equipment.
- Follow patient safety policies and laboratory procedures
- Deliver laboratory reports and results when required.
- Carry out other related laboratory duties as assigned.
Requirements
- The program requires students to complete a Diploma in Medical
- Laboratory Technology or a Medical Laboratory Science degree program.
- The applicant needs to obtain Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification.
- The applicant needs to obtain registration from the NL Council of Health Professionals.
- Strong record of work performance.
Willingness to complete refresher training if requested.
