Job Description

  • The candidate must bathe and shampoo animals.
  • The candidate must clip animal coats.
  • The candidate must document animal behaviour.
  • The candidate must monitor animal behaviour.
  • The candidate must prepare food and feed animals.
  • The candidate must clean and disinfect cages, pens, aquariums, kennels, runs, stalls, and enclosures.
  • The candidate must conduct anal gland treatment.
  • The candidate must supervise helpers.
  • The candidate must clean animal ears.
  • The candidate must maintain and order supplies.
  • The candidate must provide flea bath treatments to animals.
  • The candidate must clip animal nails.
  • The candidate must supervise staff, trainees, or volunteers.
  • The candidate must care for pets.
  • The candidate must administer medications.
  • The candidate must assist in regular exercise, e.g., walking animals.
  • The candidate must perform light cleaning duties.
  • The candidate must keep logs and maintain records.
  • The candidate must perform minor property maintenance.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation.
  • The employer will provide training to the selected candidate.
  • The candidate must have a Pet First Aid Course Certificate.
  • The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • The candidate should be client-focused.
  • The candidate should be dependable.
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The candidate must be flexible.
  • The candidate should have good judgmental skills.

Work site environment

  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.

  • The candidate must work in a kennel, pet grooming shop, dog training school, pet shop, private residence, or farm.

Experience and specialization

Type of pets groomed

  • The candidate must have experience in grooming all breeds of dogs and cats.

Dog training expertise

  • The candidate must have experience in dog training, including obedience and canine behaviour problems/modification.

Animal specialization

  • The candidate must have specialization in domestic animals and pets, including cats, kittens, puppies, and dogs.

  • The candidate must be bondable.
  • The candidate must undergo a thorough driving record check (abstract) and a criminal record check.

Transportation/travel information

  • The candidate must have their own vehicle.
  • The candidate must have their own transportation.
