Job description

  • Carry out manual work in park areas including basic gardening tasks
  • Operate grounds maintenance and grass cutting equipment
  • Perform mowing operations and trimming duties and fertilization tasks and litter collection activities
  • Set up and manage irrigation systems
  • Clean and perform minor repairs on park washrooms and facilities
  • Maintain benches, playing fields, ice rinks and other park features
  • Set up items like chairs, benches and sports posts
  • Clear walkways and entrances including snow removal
  • Assist with care of horticultural beds and shrubs
  • Complete other related duties as needed

Job requirements

  • Background in grounds maintenance or horticulture, ideally in parks
  • Familiarity with grass cutting and maintenance equipment
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and ability to meet equipment permit requirements
  • Can guide and direct others when needed
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions properly
  • Strong public interaction skills with staff and visitors
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to the work
  • Physically capable of outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • Willingness to work weekends, shifts and overtime when required
