Job Description

The candidate must clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens, and other work areas.
The candidate must disinfect pens, barns, or poultry houses.
The candidate must handle animals.
The candidate must mark livestock as proof of ownership.
The candidate must monitor the calving process.
The candidate must monitor animal health.
The candidate must perform livestock feeding.
The candidate must perform pig littering activities, including clipping needle teeth, docking tails, administering iron and other medications, identifying piglets, and castration.
The candidate must track and report on current feed inventory.
The candidate must treat livestock health issues.
The candidate must perform weaning.
The candidate must harvest crops.
The candidate must feed and tend animals.
The candidate must operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment.
The candidate must maintain livestock performance records.
The candidate must maintain quality control and production records.
The candidate must clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens.
The candidate must perform general farm duties.
The candidate must set and monitor water lines, airflow, and temperature in barns, pens, and chicken coops.

Job Requirements

The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
There are no standard education requirements, such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
A candidate with experience is an asset.

Work site environment

Farm operations include beef cattle ranching and farming, including feedlots, broiler and other meat-type chicken production, chicken farming, hog and pig farming, layer poultry farming, livestock combination farming, organic farming, other miscellaneous animal farming, other poultry farming, turkey farming, livestock farming, and poultry and egg production.
The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
The candidate must work in a dusty, cold/refrigerated and dirty environment.
The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.
The candidate must work in an environment with a high concentration of odours.

Work setting

The candidate should work in a rural area; most people live or work on farms or ranches. Hamlets, villages, towns, and other small settlements are in or surrounded by rural areas.
The candidate should work in staff accommodation that offers live-in accommodation when an employer provides a housing offer to its employees.
