Job Description
- This role supports enterprise network systems and technology infrastructure for the City of Toronto.
- This is a full time permanent role based at 703 Don Mills Road in Toronto.
- The position follows a Monday to Friday routine with 35 work hours each week.
- Staff members work within the Network Services Unit in a technical and team focused environment.
- The position includes system monitoring, troubleshooting support and enterprise technology upgrades.
Responsibilities
- Review enterprise software, hardware and transmission systems using diagnostic tools.
- Help out with the enterprise systems installation, operation and maintenance side of things.
- Assist with the planning and design part, especially when it comes to implementing network upgrades and introducing new technologies.
- Do some research on hardware along with software solutions.
- Maintain security access across enterprise servers, software and network systems.
- Manage enterprise user accounts according to approved standards and procedures.
- Respond to technical support requests and develop action plans for system issues.
- Review and update technical manuals, standards and documentation.
Requirements
- Post secondary education in Network Engineering, Data Communication or Computer Sciences is required, or recognized certifications such as CCNA or CCNP, or an equivalent mix of education and work background.
- Work background in planning, designing and implementing network technologies within complex Cisco environments is required.
- Work background in LAN, WAN and Cloud administration using Cisco, Meraki, Windows environments and TCP IP technologies is required.
- Solid background in SDN and SD WAN technologies for enterprise networks and data centers is required.
- Work background deploying security infrastructure including Checkpoint and Fortinet Next Generation Firewalls is required.
- Work background working with vendors and cross functional teams for troubleshooting support is required.
- Skilled in maintaining design documents using MS Visio and providing technical training and guidance.
- Strong knowledge of structured network cabling standards and design is required.
- Have an Ontario Class G driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
- Strong knowledge of QoS, VPN, Multicasting, Ether channel, QinQ and trunking technologies is required.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco hardware including 960 x, 930 x and virtual switching is required.
- Good understanding of OSPF, BGP, MP BGP and MPLS is required.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco wireless controllers and wireless bridge technologies is required.
- Skilled in developing and testing disaster recovery plans.
- Strong interaction skills are required for troubleshooting support, reporting and technical documentation.
- Can travel within Toronto with access to a vehicle.
