Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for completing pre-court activities, including preparing the courtroom, ensuring courtroom technology is properly tested and set up, organizing files, and obtaining exhibits for court.
  • The candidate will be responsible for managing in-court activities, including recording attendance of all parties, confirming time estimates, organizing court lists, calling cases, and operating courtroom technology.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring court proceedings, maintaining required audio standards, and recording accurate information in computer systems.
  • The candidate will be responsible for completing post-court activities, including file reviews, transcript and interpreter requests, invoice preparation, file status updates, exhibit returns, and courtroom maintenance.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining case tracking systems, updating case results, scheduling appearances, entering data, and generating documents.
  • The candidate will be responsible for preparing and cancelling documents, updating case tracking systems, and distributing documents to relevant parties and court users.
  • The candidate will be responsible for determining access levels and maintaining compliance with disclosure legislation, including bans on publication and disclosure.
  • The candidate will be responsible for delivering informational services regarding filings, policies, and procedures through various communication methods, including in-person, telephone, mail, and electronic channels, and ensuring required fees are remitted and processed.
  • The candidate will be responsible for completing routine clerical tasks such as taking and swearing affidavits, filing, photocopying, faxing, and using office equipment.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing training, mentoring, and ongoing support to registry staff and court clerks.
  • The candidate will be responsible for receiving and securing all court exhibits.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have completed secondary school or hold an equivalent General Educational Development (GED) credential.
  • The candidate must have at least two years of experience in administrative support, customer service, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must have at least one year of experience in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, and using standard computer applications, including Windows, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a keyboarding speed of at least 40 words per minute.
  • The candidate must possess a valid B.C. driver’s licence.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience using court programs and applications, including JUSTIN, CEIS, ARC, CTAS, and CCD.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience as a Court Clerk and/or Registry Clerk.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with at least one year of previous work experience in a legal environment.
  • The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.

  • The candidate must be available to work flexible schedules, including rotating shifts and overtime when required on short notice.
  • The candidate must be available to travel to other geographical areas and circuit court locations, including during adverse weather conditions, and must have reliable transportation or be willing to travel with others.
