Job Description

  • The candidate must inspect project activities, administer contracts, and maintain liaison with contractors/Construction Services to ensure work, materials, progress, and costs meet BC Hydro expectations, and resolve related problems, advise staff of major problems, and authorize payments and acceptable deviations from contract specifications.
  • The candidate must conduct, evaluate, and direct testing, surveying, and estimating activities at project sites.
  • The candidate will provide input into project planning and drafting of tender documents and participate in pre-job meetings.
  • The candidate will maintain liaison with project team members, local interest groups, and related agencies and identify construction and environmental problems while recommending alternative strategies.
  • The candidate will hold work leadership responsibilities and perform duties similar to lower-level Construction Officers and assigned technical and clerical staff.
  • The candidate will act as Site Safety Coordinator to ensure all regulations, acts, safety, and security requirements are met.
  • The candidate may act as Project Controller in accordance with SPR requirements.
  • The candidate may be required to act as the official on-site BC Hydro representative with authority to commit BC Hydro to project activities and resulting costs.
  • The candidate must prepare project activity reports and coordinate required permits and clearances.
  • The candidate will provide a high level of expertise in a technical specialty and/or broad multidisciplinary expertise.
  • The candidate will perform duties of a minor nature related to the above responsibilities that do not affect job rating.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate will be required to complete a National Diploma of Technology in Civil & Structural or Electrical from an Institute of Technology, or an equivalent trades apprenticeship program, along with contract law training and four (4) years of related construction experience.
  • The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
