Job Description

  • The candidate will be in charge of troubleshooting and isolating faults.
  • The candidate will be in charge of testing and measuring voltage, loads, ground faults, and circuit integrity.
  • The candidate will be in charge of splicing, joining, and connecting wires.
  • The candidate will be expected to renovate electrical systems in both residential and commercial buildings.
  • The candidate will be responsible for reading, interpreting blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications and adhering to instructions and operating manuals
  • The candidate must install, replace, and repair electrical controls and panel boxes.
  • The candidate will be expected to install power generation, backup power generation, and power conditioning systems.
  • The candidate must install surface mount and/or overhead cables.
  • The candidate must install underground wiring and cables.
  • The candidate must carry out preventive maintenance programmes.
  • The candidate will be required to connect power to audio and visual equipment.
  • The candidate will be required to ground and bond electrical equipment, systems, and structures such as swimming pools and hot tubs.
  • The candidate will be required to keep maintenance reports and documentation.
  • The candidate will be expected to maintain professionalism in customer service.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • The candidate must have a Registered Apprenticeship certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Candidate having experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must have completed college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training.
  • The candidate must have a Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate, a First Aid Certificate, a Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS) Certificate, a Construction Electrician Red Seal Certificate, an Electrician Trade Certification, a Fall Arrest Protection Training Course, and working at heights training.
  • The candidate must be capable of acting on their own initiative.
  • The candidate should be organised and flexible in nature.
  • The candidate should be a good team player with enough interpersonal and judge-mental skills.
  • The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication.
  • The candidate should be client focused.

Equipment and Machinery Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have prior experience operating motors and controls, generators and turbines, electronic devices, and traditional electrical devices.

Area of Specialization

  • The candidate should be familiar with neon signs, data processing and computers, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, lighting systems, communications systems, security and surveillance systems, emergency power systems, and fire alarm systems.

Work Setting

  • The candidate will be required to work in Commercial settings.

Security and Safety

  • The candidate should be bondable and easily communicate.
  • The candidate should be subjected to a thorough driving record check (abstract) as well as a criminal record check.
  • The candidate must have a basic level of security clearance.

Own Tools/Equipment

  • The candidate must have their own tools, safety equipment/gear, steel-toed safety boots and hard hat.

Work Site Environment

  • The candidate will be required to work in confined space.
  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
  • The candidate must be able to work at heights.
  • The candidate must be able to work in dusty, hot and cold/refrigerated conditions.
