Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of in-house cleaning staff, including scheduling, assigning duties, monitoring performance, evaluating work, and providing feedback and support.
  • The candidate will be responsible for coordinating staffing and operational coverage, including addressing short-term absences and ensuring continuity of cleaning services.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring contracted cleaning services to ensure adherence to quality standards, WHMIS requirements, and contractual expectations, and will address non-compliance and performance issues.
  • The candidate will monitor cleaning operations across assigned buildings to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and cleanliness standards.
  • The candidate will review and update cleaning methods and procedures to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and consistency of service.
  • The candidate will lead and maintain WHMIS compliance by ensuring staff are trained in safe work practices, overseeing the safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, and ensuring MSDS for cleaning products are current, accurate, and accessible in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • The candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for MLAs, Legislative Assembly staff, and contractors after normal business hours, independently managing high-profile and complex cleaning service requests by assessing issues, de-escalating concerns, and directing staff to ensure timely and effective resolution.
  • The candidate will order supplies and equipment, and maintain accurate records related to cleaning operations, training documentation, inventory, and budget tracking.
  • The candidate will submit and recommend budget proposals and adjustments as necessary.
  • The candidate will ensure strict compliance with waste-handling procedures, including recycling, compost, and the secure handling of sensitive or confidential waste materials.
  • The candidate will perform and oversee minor maintenance tasks during evening operations, such as maintenance and small repairs to cleaning equipment, replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, and replacing ceiling tiles, and report larger issues to the Legislative Facility Manager.
  • The candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for the Legislative Facility Manager between 4:30 pm and midnight, ensuring timely communication, issue escalation, and operational decision-making.
  • The candidate will take responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment, following safe work practices and procedures, and reporting potential hazards.
  • The candidate will perform nightly cleaning duties including floors, offices, kitchens, common areas, washrooms, waste removal, and other relevant tasks.
  • The candidate will perform other duties as assigned within the scope of work.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have a minimum of three years of experience in commercial, institutional, or government cleaning operations, including at least one year in a supervisory or team lead role.
  • The candidate must have experience managing contracted services and overseeing service agreements.
  • The candidate must have experience preparing budgets and monitoring expenditures related to cleaning operations.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have completed Building Service Worker Levels 1โ€“3 courses.
  • The candidate with experience in carpet steam cleaning and hard-surface floor maintenance, including operation of floor cleaning equipment, may be preferred.
