Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for providing services, consultation, and crisis support to families, children, youth, and caregivers in various circumstances.
- The candidate will be responsible for recommending and assisting families and caregivers with obtaining community services, including referrals, based on identified family needs and service availability.
- The candidate must collaborate with delegated Ministry staff to coordinate alternate caregiving arrangements for children and youth who cannot remain in their family homes and conduct visits to family homes and caregiving places.
- The candidate must provide support and services to youth and assess eligibility for youth agreements.
- The candidate will be responsible for bringing the circle together to coordinate various planning activities, including family, cultural, permanency, and care plans for children and youth in care, and documenting the plans.
- The candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining connections with Indigenous communities to support children, youth, families, and collaborative planning.
- The candidate will be responsible for reviewing MCFD records to identify current concerns, historical events, and information related to the child’s heritage and Indigenous culture, and implementing plans that strengthen connections with extended family and the community.
- The candidate will be responsible for gathering relevant information in a timely manner and working with the Team Leader to formulate plans that address and stabilize crisis situations.
- The candidate will be responsible for informing child protection workers whenever concerns suggest that a child’s safety or well-being is at immediate risk.
- The candidate will provide support that ensures children’s views are considered and that information is developmentally and culturally appropriate for the child and family.
- The candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and clear reports in compliance with legal requirements, policies, and procedures, while documenting information in the database as needed.
- The candidate will work collaboratively with other MCFD employees and community organizations to achieve the best outcomes for the child and family.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or a Human Services field.
- The candidate must have completed Secondary School Graduation or an equivalent qualification.
- The candidate must have 2 years of post-secondary studies toward a degree, diploma, or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline, along with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
- The candidate must have 1 year of post-secondary studies toward a degree, diploma, or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline, along with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience.
- The candidate must have a minimum of 4 years or more of related work experience.
- The candidate must have education in a Human Services field, including Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology, or Nursing.
- The candidate must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License or an equivalent license from another Canadian Province.
- The candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree that consists of a 4-year program or an equivalent number of credits.
- The candidate must provide education credentials that are subject to verification and validation according to the ministry process.
- The candidate must have education obtained outside of Canada assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Service, if required.
- The candidate may be considered if they have completed all required courses, have not yet graduated, and can provide a letter from their educational institution confirming completion of degree requirements.
- Preference may be given to candidates with experience working with Ministry Policy and Procedures and data management systems, including ICM, MIS, or similar systems.
- Preference may be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree or a two (2) year diploma in Social Work or Child & Youth Care.
- Preference may be given to candidates with experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Preference may be given to candidates with experience working in child or youth welfare.
- Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as Indigenous and possess the required combination of education and experience.
- The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
