Job Description

Building Service Worker I

  • The candidate will be responsible for completing set-up, clean-up, and take-down activities in accordance with program and event requirements.
  • The candidate will be responsible for sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning windows and walls.
  • The candidate will be responsible for stripping, sealing, waxing, and polishing floors.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance on HVAC and other mechanical systems.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring building environmental control systems and making minor adjustments with supervisory approval.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining records of equipment operation and maintenance activities.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing minor building and equipment repairs as assigned.
  • The candidate will be responsible for cleaning washrooms and changerooms, replenishing supplies, and using approved cleaning methods and disinfectants.
  • The candidate will be responsible for securing the building by locking doors and windows and activating alarm systems.
  • The candidate will be responsible for replacing light globes, fluorescent tubes, and cleaning lighting fixtures.
  • The candidate will be responsible for moving furniture and equipment to support facility operations and event requirements.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the training of seasonal and auxiliary employees.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing other related duties as required.

Building Service Worker II- Pool

  • The candidate will be responsible for completing set-up, clean-up, and take-down activities in accordance with program and special event requirements.
  • The candidate will be responsible for sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, waxing, and polishing floors, as well as cleaning offices, windows, and walls.
  • The candidate will be responsible for cleaning washrooms, replenishing supplies, and ensuring approved disinfectants and cleaning methods are used.
  • The candidate will be responsible for operating and servicing water heating and water filtration equipment.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining swimming pool water purity and associated enclosed areas.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing building and equipment maintenance involving heating systems, air conditioning systems, compressors, plumbing fixtures, painting, and carpentry.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining records of equipment operation.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the training of new part-time, seasonal, and auxiliary employees.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing other related duties as required.

Job Requirements

Building Service Worker I

  • The candidate must have completed Grade 11 or an equivalent educational qualification.
  • The candidate will be required to hold a valid Building Service Worker Level 1 credential.
  • The candidate will be required to obtain and maintain hard floor and carpet care certification.
  • The candidate must possess a minimum of three months of related work experience.
  • The candidate will be required to hold a current WHMIS certification obtained within the past year.
  • The candidate must possess Occupational First Aid Level I certification as required.
  • The candidate must possess an Ice Facility Operators Certificate (IFO) as required.
  • The candidate will be considered if they can demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Building Service Worker II- Pool

  • The candidate must have completed Grade 11 or an equivalent educational qualification.
  • The candidate must possess Pool Operators I and II qualifications.
  • The candidate must possess a WHMIS certification that is valid within one year.
  • The candidate must possess Occupational First Aid Level I certification as required.
  • The candidate must possess more than three months and up to six months of related work experience.
  • The candidate will be considered if they can demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional information

Security and safety

  • The candidate must provide a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector screening dated within the last six months and maintain renewals in accordance with organizational policy.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

  • The candidate must possess sufficient physical strength to perform the duties of the position and the stamina to work varying shifts.
  • The candidate will be required to work in a recreational and/or municipal setting.
