Job Description

The candidate must plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
The candidate must maintain professionalism in customer service.
The candidate must load and unload goods.
The candidate must inspect the vehicle’s condition, including the brakes, tires, lights, and other essential components.
The candidate will be responsible for performing pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections, as well as overseeing all vehicle aspects.
The candidate must perform preventive maintenance.
The candidate will be responsible for receiving and relaying information to central dispatch.
The candidate will be responsible for recording cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
The candidate will be responsible for tarping and ensuring cargo safety and security.
The candidate must know licensing regulations.

Job Requirements

The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation or equivalent experience.
A candidate with experience is an asset.
The candidate must hold an AZ Class Licence or a Class 1/1F/A Licence (semi-trailer trucks).
The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The candidate should be organized and flexible.
The candidate should have good judgmental skills.
The candidate should be reliable.

Experience and specialization

Documentation knowledge

The candidate must be knowledgeable about accident or incident reports, driver logbooks, inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip), maintenance and repair reports and trip reports.

Type of trucking and equipment

The candidate has experience operating flatbed trucks and straight trucks (4,600kg+ or 10,000lbs+ with 3+ axles).

Communication systems experience

The candidate will be responsible for operating GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigational equipment.
The candidate must be familiar with the Trip recorder (on-board computer).

Transportation/travel experience

The candidate has transportation and travel experience at the local, regional, provincial/territorial, and national levels.
The candidate must have both long-haul and short-haul travel experience.

Security and safety

The candidate must obtain a basic security clearance and undergo a criminal record check, a driver’s licence validity check, and a driving record (abstract) check.

Transportation/travel information
