Job Description

  • The candidate will be required to connect piping systems to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors, and control equipment.
  • The candidate will be required to install clamps, brackets, and hangers to support the piping system, sprinkler system, and fire protection equipment using hand and power tools.
  • The candidate will be required to select, measure, cut, ream, and thread pipe, install sprinkler heads, and mount prepared pipe in supports.
  • The candidate will be required to install valves, alarms, and associated equipment.
  • The candidate will be required to test the system for leaks using air or liquid pressure equipment.
  • The candidate will be expected to service and repair sprinkler systems.
  • The candidate will be required to schedule materials, tools, and personnel.
  • The candidate must be able to read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings, and specifications.
  • The candidate will be required to train apprentices.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 2 to 3 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have 4th Period Apprenticeship, 1st Period Apprenticeship, 2nd Period Apprenticeship, 3rd Period Apprenticeship, and Sprinkler System Installer Trade Certification.
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.
  • The candidate should be accurate.
  • The candidate must be able to supervise 1 to 2 people.

Work Setting

  • The candidate will be required to work in Residential and Commercial settings.

Security and Safety

  • The candidate should have clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations.

Own Tools/Equipment

  • The candidate must have their own tools, safety equipment/gear, steel-toed safety boots, hard hat, and safety glasses/goggles.

Work Site Environment

  • The candidate must be able to work in wet/damp conditions.
  • The candidate must be able to work at heights.
  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

  • The candidate should be required to handle heavy loads as part of routine work.
  • The candidate should be prepared for doing physically challenging tasks as part of daily work.
  • The candidate should have an eye for details.
  • The candidate must have excellent hand eye coordination.
  • The candidate should be willing to work in standing position for extended periods.
  • The candidate should be willing to work for long hours in bending, crouching and kneeling positions.

Work Location Information

  • The candidate will be required to work in various locations.
  • The selected candidate’s relocation expenses will not be covered by the employer.

Steamfitter and Pipefitter Specific Skills

  • The candidate will be required to measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to the required shape and size.
  • The candidate will be required to cut pipe openings in walls, floors, and ceilings using hand or power tools or machines.
  • The candidate will be required to choose the type and size of pipe needed.
  • The candidate will be required to weld, braze, cement, solder, and thread joints to join pipes and fabricate sections of piping systems.
  • The candidate will be required to test the system for leaks using testing equipment.
  • The candidate will be required to remove and replace worn components as well as reactivate the system.
  • The candidate will be required to install supports, valves, piping, and control systems.
  • The candidate will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining pipe units and fittings, as well as flushing the system.
