Job Description

  • The candidate will arrange and/or supervise access visits with children in care as directed by the Social Program Officer or Team Leader following initial orientation by a social worker.
  • The candidate will support parents in locating and enrolling in community-based parenting and related programs by maintaining information on community resources, assessing client needs, and evaluating program suitability.
  • The candidate will support youth-in-care (YIC) and service providers in implementing YIC independent living plans by arranging services and activities in accordance with the plan.
  • The candidate will distribute information to families seeking and/or receiving services through CYSN and/or CYMH and collect information to assist in determining eligibility.
  • The candidate will assist in conducting child abuse and neglect investigations and preparing abuse and neglect reports by identifying information sources and facilitating contact with relevant parties.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting with information gathering activities to support Care Plan development.
  • The candidate will be responsible for identifying sources of information that support the development and implementation of case management plans and the preparation of reports.
  • The candidate will provide child case management support by serving court notices to parents, answering inquiries about the rights of Children in Care (CIC), preparing referral documents and necessary documentation, and ensuring payments are received by foster parents.
  • The candidate will participate in multi-disciplinary case conferences, organize case management points, and document discussion outcomes.
  • The candidate will draft court documents at the direction of the Social Program Officer for approval and signature.
  • The candidate will be responsible for serving court documents as instructed by the Social Program Officer.
  • The candidate will provide support to the Social Program Officer during court appearances, including assisting children, family members, and others as required.
  • The candidate will provide transportation assistance by arranging and/or transporting children in care.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have completed Secondary School Graduation or an equivalent qualification.
  • The candidate must have completed 2 years of post-secondary studies towards a degree, diploma, or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline, including Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology, or Nursing, along with a minimum of 1 year of related work experience.
  • The candidate must have completed 1 year of post-secondary studies towards a degree, diploma, or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline, including Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology, or Nursing, along with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
  • The candidate must possess a minimum of 3 years of related work experience.
  • The candidate may be considered if they possess an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restrictions or an equivalent driver’s licence from another Canadian Province.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working with Indigenous peoples or children.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience using the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Integrated Case Management (ICM) and/or Management Information Systems (MIS) computer systems.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) and possess the required combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
