Job Description
- The candidate will play a key role in promoting community safety and rehabilitation while contributing to meaningful change.
- The candidate will be responsible for supervising and supporting adults under judicial or quasi-judicial orders to help them meet legal obligations and reduce criminal behavior.
- The candidate will be required to use trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches to assess risks and needs, develop case management plans, and connect clients with community resources.
- The candidate will be responsible for delivering core programs to clients as part of their duties.
- The candidate will contribute to fostering meaningful change in the lives of individuals and their communities through this work.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree from a Canadian designated educational institution.
- The candidate must have completed a two-year diploma and have at least 3 years of full-time experience working with people with complex social, health, or legal needs, or equivalent.
- The candidate must have sixty (60) credits of post-secondary education towards a diploma and at least 3 years of full-time related experience working with people with complex social, health, or legal needs, or an equivalent combination.
- The candidate must confirm that post-secondary education obtained outside of Canada has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services and must provide a Comprehensive Report from ICES by the closing date of the posting to be considered.
- The candidate must provide proof of English language proficiency if their post-secondary education was instructed in a language other than English, as outlined in the attached Job Profile.
- The candidate must have successfully completed the Adult Probation Officer pre-requisite course (CORR1000), with exemptions as outlined in the Job Profile.
- The candidate must possess a valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license without restrictions or an equivalent Canadian driver’s license, and a valid BC Class 7 may be considered.
- The candidate must have a minimum of 6 months experience as a Probation Officer or Probation Officer 15 in a Community Corrections office.
- The candidate must have a minimum of 12 months experience working with people with complex social, health, or legal needs.
- The candidate must be willing to work with adult clients who may have multiple legal, health, social, and/or mental health challenges and/or clients who have committed or are alleged to have committed criminal acts, including intimate partner violence or sexually motivated offences.
- The candidate will be required to submit a driver’s abstract review covering the last five-year period as a condition of employment.
- The candidate will be required to participate in and successfully complete the position’s training requirements as a condition of employment.
- The candidate may be required to adjust hours of work while on basic training if employed in a part-time capacity.
- The candidate may be required to travel overnight to remote locations and work outside typical work hours.
- The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
