Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for providing direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention, while consulting and liaising with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other ministry programs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for administering and scoring mental health-related test instruments appropriate to the profession.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive assessments, developing treatment plans, and conducting individual, group, and parent-child relational therapy.
  • The candidate will be responsible for conducting suicide assessments and crisis interventions.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining basic knowledge of psycho-tropic medications as prescribed by a physician and understanding the effects of these medications.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate clinical, client, and administrative records.
  • The candidate will be responsible for promoting and maintaining effective working relationships with clients and families, social workers, foster parents, physicians, schools, and hospitals to coordinate services, obtain input and cooperation, resolve conflicts, influence outcomes, provide community consultation, and deliver educational services and training on emotional and behavioural disturbances from a neurodevelopmental, trauma-informed, and attachment-based perspective.
  • The candidate will be responsible for establishing trust with children and youth and engaging them based on their stage of readiness for change.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing individual clinical services to children and youth with complex and/or multiple diagnoses, including developmental trauma, attachment concerns, and social, emotional, and behavioural concerns.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing assertive case management and leading clients’ care teams through consensus-based decision making to create treatment plans that promote environmental and relational stability, enhance client success across home, school, and other settings, and monitor and evaluate the outcomes of these plans and interventions.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing education and consultation on developmental trauma, attachment, brain development, and complex care and intervention theory and strategies to community agencies and other service providers, including physicians, schools, hospitals, foster parents, child protection, and other MCFD social workers.
  • The candidate will be responsible for delivering workshops and training to MCFD staff and community partners, including schools, physicians, foster parents, and hospitals, on developmental trauma, attachment, brain development, and complex care and intervention.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing suggestions and input throughout various stages of child protection decision-making processes to support the mental well-being of the child, youth, and/or family.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have a Master’s degree in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology, Child and Youth Care, or a comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject.
  • The candidate will be required to provide confirmation that any degree obtained outside of Canada has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) and submit a basic report by the closing date of this posting.
  • The candidate must have at least one year of full-time equivalent experience working with children, youth, and their families while delivering a broad range of community-based mental health services.
  • The candidate must possess and maintain a valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s license. Candidates who currently hold a valid driver’s license in Canada must obtain a valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s license immediately upon selection.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with two years or more of experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community-based mental health services.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience providing direct interventions related to the trauma-based behaviours of children and youth and their care teams.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience providing outreach and community-based work-related activities for youth considered to be at high risk.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who have completed training, certification, and/or gained experience in trauma-focused and attachment-based modalities, including CCI (Complex Care Intervention), Attachment – Regulation – Competency (ARC) Framework, Neurosequeitnial Model of Therapeutics, Circle of Security Program, and/or Connect Attachment Program (also known as Connect Parenting Program).
  • Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit and possess the required combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
