Job Description

  • The Housing Projects and Maintenance Technician performs his duties by inspecting military housing units and conducting repairs and creating maintenance schedules.
  • The role helps coordinate maintenance work, building inspections, and technical documentation.
  • Work includes collaboration with contractors and service providers to maintain housing facilities.
  • The position is based in Valcartier, Québec and works directly from the office and field locations.
  • The role is part of a small technical team supporting housing services for hundreds of Canadian Armed Forces families.
  • One permanent position is available within the local Housing Services Centre.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect housing units and identify repair, maintenance, or improvement needs
  • Plan and coordinate repair and maintenance work with service providers.
  • Creating work orders and managing associated technical documents are primary duties.
  • The work inspection process requires the employee to check completed projects for their compliance with contractual obligations and building code requirements.
  • The process of building and mechanical system inspections requires both preventive and reactive assessment methods.Respond to service requests from building occupants while creating plans to address their reported problems.
  • Expertise required to explain technical matters to the team.
  • The team requires me to perform small repair tasks and installation work as needed.
  • Assist with preparing plans, specifications, and technical project documents.

Requirements

  • Reliability Status security clearance required.
  • Recent and acceptable driver’s abstract required.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s licence equivalent to the vehicle being operated.
  • Must use required safety equipment and protective clothing according to regulations.
  • The Department of National Defence together with the Canadian Armed Forces requires all personnel to adhere to their Codes of Values and Ethics and their regulations concerning conflict of interest situations.
  • The candidate must be willing to travel and demonstrate their ability to do so.
    The candidate needs to show their capacity to handle work that requires extra hours.
  • Secondary school diploma or any similar approved education.
  • Experience renovating residential housing or inspecting residential or commercial properties to determine maintenance needs.
  • Experience in property maintenance, facility maintenance, or project management.
  • The candidate possesses knowledge about both cost estimating methods and cost control techniques.
  • The candidate possesses knowledge about building codes and standards together with materials that construction professionals use for residential construction and renovation projects.
  • The candidate shows the ability to manage his work by developing effective strategies that help him achieve his deadlines.
  • The candidate shows his potential through his ability to show initiative and maintain trustworthiness while demonstrating respect and providing client service.
  • French essential language requirement.
  • Asset: Journeyman certificate in a residential building trade or engineering technologist/technician certification.
  • Asset: Interprovincial Red Seal certification (Carpenter, Electrician, Plumber, or Gasfitter).

  • Asset: Can work well with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, and email software.
