Job Description

The candidate will be responsible for constructing, preparing, laying out, and installing planting areas and irrigation systems, as well as testing, maintaining, repairing, and winterizing irrigation systems.
The candidate will be responsible for planting flowers and trees, mowing turf, watering, weeding, fertilizing, applying pesticides and herbicides, pruning trees and shrubs, and performing related horticultural tasks.
The candidate will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, minor repairs, and lubrication of equipment.
The candidate will be responsible for collecting and disposing of debris and litter and may be required to handle hazardous waste such as used needles.
The candidate will be responsible for performing snow and ice control duties.
The candidate will be responsible for receiving and responding to service requests from staff, contractors, and the public.
The candidate will be responsible for maintaining written records such as activity and vandalism reports.
The candidate may provide crew-leader direction and instruction to less experienced staff and students on job requirements, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
The candidate must be capable of performing manual labour.

Job Requirements

The candidate must hold a Horticulture Diploma.
The candidate must hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
The candidate must demonstrate flexibility in work assignments and changing priorities.
The candidate must have people management skills and experience.
The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to service excellence.
