Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, organizing, and facilitating FireSmart initiatives to promote fire safety awareness throughout the City of Maple Ridge.
- The candidate will be responsible for providing FireSmart recommendations and guidance to homeowners.
- The candidate will be responsible for conducting research and participating in site visits alongside a Firefighter.
- The candidate will be responsible for conducting community outreach and delivering FireSmart 101 educational sessions throughout the City.
- The candidate will be responsible for preparing correspondence, reports, and related documentation.
- The candidate will be responsible for attending tradeshows, wildfire preparedness events, and community gatherings.
- The candidate will be responsible for promoting fire and life safety awareness throughout the community.
- The candidate will be responsible for participating in the development of tabletop exercises related to emergency preparedness.
- The candidate must exercise tact, discretion, and sound judgment when interacting with the public and stakeholders.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must have completed a post-secondary diploma in Forestry or a related field and possess some experience in FireSmart or wildfire management, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- The candidate must demonstrate sound knowledge of fire prevention, FireSmart principles, and emergency preparedness practices.
- The candidate must demonstrate sound knowledge of fire safety education, public safety programs, and emergency management practices.
- The candidate must demonstrate sound knowledge of the Cityโs geographic areas.
- The candidate must demonstrate sound knowledge of applicable municipal bylaws and regulations.
- The candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with internal departments, strata councils, property management companies, elected officials, community representatives, and members of the public.
- The candidate must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- The candidate must be able to deliver and present educational and outreach materials to diverse audiences.
- The candidate must be able to write correspondence, conduct research, and prepare reports and public education materials.
- The candidate must be able to deal with the public tactfully and firmly while exercising sound judgment and discretion.
- The candidate must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- The candidate must be able to work and travel in rural and remote areas as required.
- The candidate must be skilled in using office equipment and software, including presentation tools, education programs, and social media applications.
