Canwest Farms Ltd. based in Richmond, BC is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Farm manager who are self-motivated and have good interpersonal skills. CanWest Farms is the result of the Kallu family’s hard work and dedication. In Richmond, BC, we’ve been farming since the 1960s. CanWest Farms allows local customers to shop directly from the farm. Our on-site Farm Market sells fruits and vegetables grown by local farmers, as well as specialty items such as honey and jam.

During the blueberry season, we sell ready-picked and frozen blueberries at our market (typically from the beginning of July to the end of August). The candidate who got selected will be required to start work as soon as possible. The vacancies refer to Permanent employment or Full time job. The shift timings include Day, Evening, Weekend, Early Morning and Morning

Job Description

The candidate should be able to perform general farm duties.
The candidate should have knowledge and capability to operate farm machinery, equipment and buildings.
The candidate should be responsible in managing overall operations of farm.
The candidate will be required to carry out repair and maintenance work for farm machinery, equipments and buildings if and when required.
The candidate will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, and supervising staff and/or volunteers.
The candidate will be in charge of hoeing crops.
The candidate would be in charge of vegetable culling.
The candidate would be responsible for maintaining work records and logs.
The candidate will be required to maintain quality control and production records
The candidate will be required to co-ordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers
The candidate will be required to develop work schedules and establish procedures
The candidate will be required to supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations
The candidate will be expected to keep track of the inventory of stored materials.
The candidate should ensure farm activities comply with government regulations.
The candidate should ensure uninterrupted water supply to the farm.
The candidate should be responsible in maintaining financial and production records of the farm.
The candidate will be expected to analyse current operations, crops, livestock, staff, and financial documents and make recommendations for improvements.
The candidate will be responsible for developing planting and harvesting plans and schedules, as well as ensuring that staff understands expectations.
The candidate will be required to visit various divisions to inspect crops and livestock, as well as perform soil and water tests.
The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and other supplies are restocked on a regular basis.
The candidate will be expected to install, maintain, and monitor the irrigation system on a regular basis.
The candidate will be in charge of marketing and selling farm products such as fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat, and grain.
The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all employees follow health and safety regulations.
The candidate will be expected to supervise and oversee crop-growing operations.
The candidate will be expected to build professional networks and stay up to date on agricultural science developments.
The candidate must understand the implications of the weather and devise contingency plans.
The candidate will be expected to ensure that deadlines for activities such as seeding and harvesting are met.
The candidate must maintain knowledge of pests and diseases, as well as an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them.
The candidate will be responsible for monitoring staff rosters, hours, and performance, as well as resolving any grievances.
The candidate will be expected to supervise the work of farming units and make suggestions for improvements and changes.
The candidate will be expected to assist and supervise the day-to-day activities of general farm workers.
The candidate will be required to ensure that farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed
