Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality service to British Columbians in person, over the telephone, and within a virtual environment.
  • The candidate will be responsible for conducting interviews with clients who may be in crisis and/or have emotional, physical, or mental conditions that may present barriers to communication.
  • The candidate will be responsible for conducting interviews, recording client transactions, simultaneously entering information into a computerised system, and collecting, reviewing, and verifying documentation and information provided by clients.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assessing eligibility for legislated income support programs and services and approving or denying applications based on legislated authority, client needs, personal issues, resources, financial circumstances, and employability while ensuring clients are aware of alternative resources.
  • The candidate will be responsible for authorizing the payment of income assistance and other exceptional/hardship funds (i.e. supplementary allowances) and approving client participation in a variety of programs and services (e.g., job search/employability programs).
  • The candidate will be responsible for making decisions according to delegated legislative authority regarding applications for and ongoing support of income assistance and disability assistance.
  • The candidate will be responsible for completing and updating electronic files and identifying the impact of client social circumstances on their ability to achieve employment.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assessing client circumstances and assisting clients in developing employment goals and individualized employment plans outlining client obligations and accountabilities to become employed and self-sufficient.
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that agreed upon expectations and obligations are maintained as a condition for continued financial assistance.
  • The candidate will be responsible for motivating clients to achieve sustainable employment and providing ongoing follow-up and support through case management.
  • The candidate will be responsible for adhering to freedom of information guidelines and responding to requests for information from clients, the public, the business community, and other government agencies.
  • The candidate will be responsible for entering and maintaining data on an electronic database and compiling statistical information.
  • The candidate will be responsible for responding to frequent inquiries about eligibility for benefits and programs.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate will be required to have Secondary School graduation or an equivalent General Educational Development (GED) qualification.
  • The candidate must have one (1) or more years of experience delivering a high standard of client service in a high-volume, fast-paced, rapidly changing environment through in-person, virtual technologies, or telephone interactions.
  • The candidate must have one (1) or more years of experience working with various computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • The candidate must have experience providing services to clients experiencing poverty, substance use, or mental health issues.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience in community-based or social service roles primarily supporting clients experiencing poverty, substance use, or mental health issues, including shelter work, outreach work, or harm-reduction work.
  • The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
