City of Maple Ridge is located at Maple Ridge, BC. The company is currently looking for applications for the role of Election Officials. We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible. This is a casual, non-union position.

Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for setting up the voting place and stations, including voting booths, signs, and notices.
  • The candidate will be responsible for greeting voters, directing them to the appropriate lineups, and explaining the voting process.
  • The candidate will be responsible for attending the vote tabulator, providing instructions, and assisting voters as required.
  • The candidate will be responsible for dealing tactfully and courteously with the public.
  • The candidate will be responsible for using either a computer program or a paper voters list to verify voter names.
  • The candidate will be responsible for making changes to existing registrations, registering new voters, and verifying identification.
  • The candidate will be responsible for issuing ballots.
  • The candidate will be responsible for packing equipment and supplies and closing the voting place.
  • The candidate will be responsible for cleaning voting stations, booths, and supplies periodically as required.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must be legally entitled to work in British Columbia.
  • The candidate must be fluent in English. Proficiency in other languages will be considered an asset.
  • The candidate must arrange their own transportation to and from the voting station.
  • The candidate must attend a mandatory training session.
  • The candidate must not be related to any candidate running for office in the general election and must not be actively working for any election campaign or candidate.
  • The candidate must comply with all Voting Station, City, Provincial, and Federal health and safety regulations in place at the time of voting.
  • The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • The candidate must be able to interact with voters and clearly communicate election procedures.
  • The candidate must be able to understand and follow written instructions and checklists.
  • The candidate must possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • The candidate must possess proficient computer skills.
  • The candidate should have knowledge of and experience with the election process, which will be considered an asset.

Work conditions

  • The candidate must remain at the voting place throughout the assigned shift.
  • The candidate must provide their own non-perishable meals and beverages, as Election Officials may not have access to microwaves and refrigerators.
  • The candidate must be able to sit or stand for extended periods during the workday, which may last approximately 14 hours.
  • The candidate will be required to work throughout the day in a school gym or Community Hall.
  • The candidate may wish to bring a cushion to sit on and layers of clothing during the workday.
