Job Description
- The Senior Leader is in charge of leading Platform and Data Engineering at Royal Bank of Canada Borealis.
- The Senior Leader will also be responsible for leading and mentoring the multi-disciplinary engineering teams within a highly collaborative environment, creating platforms and solutions to support scalable, high-availability data.
- The Senior Leader will collaborate closely with the Business area, Architecture team, and IT Operations teams across Royal Bank of Canada.
- The Senior Leader will work in a progressive, innovative environment focused on developing new technologies and operational processes for Technology & Operations.
- This is a full-time salaried position, 37.5 hours/week, based in Toronto.
Responsibilities
- Assist platform teams and subject matter experts (SMEs) from the business in developing data solutions based on technical specifications that align with the needs of both the business and the project.
- Incorporate enterprise data products by integrating that data with cloud platforms for enterprise level of consumption.
- Work collaboratively with the business and technology teams on Data and AI initiatives while supporting each team’s data management requirements.
- Be part of an agile, cross-functional team consisting of platform engineers, data engineers, software developers and the business’s data stakeholders.
- Work closely with the database administrators (DBAs), data scientists and other business groups to collect requirements from those various groups, then build advanced analytics solutions for those groups.
- Help to design, scale, monitor and operate extremely high-availability, high-performance data platforms.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or 10 years of professional experience that is equal to the university education.
- Over ten years’ experience working as a Platform Engineer or Data Engineer.
- More than a decade managing various database systems such as Teradata, DB2, Snowflake, Databricks/Apache Spark.
- Database schemas, dimensional models, and scalable data architectures have been designed for more than 10 years now.
- Data platform tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Apache Kafka, IBM DataStage) have been used hands-on.
- Solution architecture for large financial institutions has been done for the past 7 years, preferably Canada’s Royal Bank.
- Good understanding of the internal bank’s systems, their standards, and their governance frameworks.
- Red Hat OpenShift has been handled including CI/CD, network setup, and cluster design.
- Worked on data platforms in physical, public/private cloud (AWS / Microsoft Azure), and mixed environments.
- Adept at communicating and defending architectural choices to both board and top management.
- Possesses profound understanding of banking regulations compliance (payment systems, governmental requirements, cybersecurity).
- Using architecture documentation tools like ArchiMate, UML, Confluence, and Visio.
