Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for performing pre-court duties, including opening and preparing the courtroom, testing and setting up courtroom technology, retrieving and preparing files, and obtaining exhibits for court.
- The candidate will be responsible for performing in-court duties, including confirming and recording attendance of all parties, verifying time estimates, prioritizing court lists, calling cases, and operating courtroom technology and equipment.
- The candidate will be responsible for monitoring court proceedings, ensuring audio standards are met, and entering accurate information into computer systems in compliance with branch standards.
- The candidate will be responsible for conducting post-court duties, including checking files for completeness, ordering transcripts and interpreters, preparing invoices for hearing day fees, updating relevant parties on file status, returning exhibits, and tidying, restocking, and securing the courtroom.
- The candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining case tracking systems to record results, schedule appearances, complete data entry, and produce documents.
- The candidate will be responsible for producing and cancelling documents, recording results in case tracking systems, and reading and distributing documents to court parties and users.
- The candidate will be responsible for identifying and determining access level designations to ensure compliance with disclosure legislation, including publication and disclosure bans.
- The candidate will be responsible for providing information on filings, policies, and procedures in person, by phone, mail, and electronic means to members of the public, Crown, sheriffs, police, corrections, judiciary, defence, and other court users, while ensuring applicable fees are remitted and processed.
- The candidate will be responsible for performing routine clerical duties, including taking and swearing affidavits, filing, photocopying, faxing, and operating office equipment.
- The candidate will be responsible for training, mentoring, and supporting registry staff and court clerks.
- The candidate will be responsible for receiving and securing all exhibits.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must have secondary school graduation or an equivalent (GED).
- The candidate must have a minimum of two years’ experience in administrative support or customer service, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- The candidate must have a minimum of one year of experience in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, and use of standard computer applications such as Windows, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- The candidate must demonstrate a keyboarding speed of 40 words per minute.
- The candidate must hold a valid B.C. driver’s licence.
- Preference may be given to candidates with experience using court programs and applications such as JUSTIN, CEIS, ARC, CTAS, and CCD.
- Preference may be given to candidates with experience as a Court Clerk and/or Registry Clerk.
- Preference may be given to candidates with one year of previous work experience in a legal environment.
- The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
