Job Description
- The candidate will work with other providers, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, Indigenous organizations, and others, to deliver services through outreach programs.
- The candidate will be responsible for conducting interviews in community locations such as correctional facilities, health authority sites, shelters, encampments, and other settings to assist individuals in understanding eligibility requirements, completing applications, and obtaining documentation to access services.
- The candidate will maintain a caseload and develop case plans based on individual needs and employability.
- The candidate will support individuals towards independence, including assistance with paying bills, connecting to services and programs, attending appointments, finding accommodation, and establishing tenancy agreements.
- The candidate will approve and issue payment of income and disability assistance, and temporary financial support.
- The candidate must support individual participation in ministry programs and services.
- The candidate will work with non-government organizations, other ministries, and different levels of government to deliver services and collect outcome information.
- The candidate will consider each individual’s unique needs and cultural wellness when making decisions related to income and disability assistance.
- The candidate must support and represent individuals in supportive housing and those experiencing homelessness.
- The candidate will be responsible for informing the public and partners, through community engagements and third-party service providers, about Ministry services and programs.
- The candidate will be responsible for coordinating with municipal, fire, and police officials to inspect single room occupancy dwellings for compliance with codes and standards.
- The candidate will locate and connect individuals to community-based supports and services.
- The candidate will support the training and orientation of new Community Integration Specialists through mentoring and coaching.
- The candidate will enter and maintain accurate information in electronic databases.
- The candidate will develop trust-based relationships and support individuals in achieving their goals.
- The candidate will work with individuals to identify traditional and cultural approaches to wellness and healing.
- The candidate will build community relationships by increasing awareness of the Community Integration Specialist role.
- The candidate will learn and maintain knowledge of community resources and referral processes.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) to be eligible for this competition, recognizing the importance of lived experience and understanding of Indigenous communities, history, values, and cultural competencies required for the role.
- The candidate must have secondary school graduation and three (3) years of related experience.
- The candidate must have an Evergreen Certificate and four (4) years of related experience.
- The candidate will be considered if they have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- The candidate must have experience providing services to Indigenous individuals living in poverty and potentially experiencing homelessness.
- The candidate must have experience supporting Indigenous people experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges.
- The candidate must have experience providing services to people with disabilities.
- The candidate must have experience delivering services to or supporting Indigenous people.
- Preference may be given to applicants with experience working in community-based roles such as outreach worker, shelter worker, health care worker, social worker, etc.
- Preference may be given to candidates with experience working with local Indigenous practices.
- Preference may be given to applicants with experience working in community organizations, BC Friendship Centres, and/or with multiple service providers.
- Preference may be given to applicants with direct or indirect lived experience of addiction, poverty, homelessness, or mental health challenges.
- Preference may be given to applicants with experience using a trauma-informed approach in client service delivery.
- The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
