Job Description

  • The candidate will provide direct clinical services, including intake, assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention, while consulting and coordinating with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other ministry programs.
  • The candidate will conduct and score mental health-related assessments using test instruments appropriate to the profession.
  • The candidate will provide comprehensive assessments, develop treatment plans, and conduct individual, group, and family therapy.
  • The candidate will conduct age-appropriate mental status assessments, including suicide assessments, crisis interventions, and safety planning.
  • The candidate must maintain basic knowledge of psychotropic medications prescribed by a physician and remain aware of their effects.
  • The candidate will create and maintain clinical, client, and administrative records using established electronic and physical file systems as required.
  • The candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining effective working relationships with clients and families, physicians, schools, and hospitals to coordinate services, secure input, foster cooperation, resolve conflicts, influence outcomes, and provide community consultation, educational services, and training on emotional and behavioural disturbances.
  • The candidate will be responsible for promoting a respectful environment that supports the emotional, physical, and cultural safety of children, youth, and families.
  • The candidate will be responsible for building trauma-informed collaborative relationships with children, youth, families, caregivers, and colleagues while demonstrating compassion, respect, cultural agility, and developmental sensitivity.
  • The candidate will support families and caregivers experiencing crisis, intense emotions, and other challenges, including situations involving diagnosis, child death, and prognosis.
  • The candidate will be responsible for integrating traditional worldviews and Indigenous approaches, when appropriate, and using best practices that align with each child or youth’s family, cultural, and community context.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supporting cultural connections for Indigenous children and youth while identifying and integrating cultural needs into planning and review meetings.
  • The candidate will be responsible for building respectful and collaborative relationships with community members, other professionals, traditional healers, Knowledge Keepers, and Elders.
  • The candidate will be responsible for coordinating planning and review meetings in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and supporting community and ministry programs and initiatives as required.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supporting families by working collaboratively with Education, Health, and Community partners, attending meetings, and assisting with family advocacy.
  • The candidate will support and assist families and caregivers in preparing and planning for the transition of youth to adulthood and relevant adult services.
  • The candidate will perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must possess a Master’s degree in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology, or Child and Youth Care, or a comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject may be considered.
  • The candidate must confirm that if their degree was obtained outside of Canada, it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES).
  • The candidate will be required to have a minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with 2+ years of experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as having an Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must possess and maintain a valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s license.
  • The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
