Job Description

  • Building Maintainer/Operator responsible for day-to-day operation of building systems and equipment.
  • Full time federal position based in Charlottetown, PEI.
  • Oversees HVAC, steam, refrigeration, and laboratory systems operations.
  • Works in a bilingual, science focused environment with flexible hours.
  • Pool process may staff term, indeterminate, acting, or assignment roles.
  • English Essential position with immediate temporary staffing need.

Responsibilities

  • You need to ensure that HVAC systems and steam systems operate safely.
  • Run and observe the central sanitation and sterilization systems.
  • Helps with hazardous waste management by using incinerators and biowaste disposal equipment.

Requirements

  • Can work shifts, overtime, weekends and holidays
  • Valid driverโ€™s license (may be required)
    Ability to use prescribed safety and respiratory equipment (fit testing required)
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions and carry 20 kg protective equipment
  • Completion of Fall Arrest and Rescue Training (may be required)
  • Fourth Class PEI Power Engineer Certificate (or transferable equivalent)
  • Experience operating and maintaining lower pressure hot water heating plants
  • Experience operating and maintaining high pressure steam plants
  • Knowledge of building heating systems and equipment
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs (theory and application)
  • Knowledge of applicable mechanical system codes and regulations
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical system failures
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to read mechanical schematics and diagrams
  • Flexibility, initiative, and client service orientation
  • English essential
  • Recognized skilled trade certificate (asset)
