Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for unloading cone shipments, verifying seedlot identification, sack count, and volume, and documenting to ensure seedlot identity is maintained throughout all processing steps.
- The candidate will be responsible for using Tree Seed Centre guidelines to prepare cones for pre-conditioning, record cone and sack quality, insect or fungal presence, abnormal crop temperature, and other characteristics, and collect seedlot samples for cone receipt evaluations.
- The candidate will be responsible for observing and recording details on cone and seed quality, seedlot integrity, production flow, and input/output through all phases of cone and seed processing, and performing visual inspections of product quality while discussing findings with the supervisor prior to and during processing activities.
- The candidate will be responsible for loading and operating cone and seed processing equipment using standard processing techniques for each tree species, ensuring safe and proper equipment use, maintaining cone and seed integrity, and monitoring processing results.
- The candidate will be responsible for performing seed blending of a seedlot after processing is completed.
- The candidate will be responsible for performing standardized sanitation procedures to ensure equipment is thoroughly cleaned between seedlots.
- The candidate will be responsible for performing accurate, legible, and dated documentation and communication throughout all phases of cone and seed processing, including updating activity reports, storage records, and mapping charts.
- The candidate will be responsible for carrying out other related duties as required.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must have secondary school graduation or an equivalent qualification.
- Preference will be given to candidates with manual labour or outdoor work experience, especially working with plants such as tree planter, gardener, landscaper, orchard worker, cone picker, forestry worker, or equivalent training and experience.
- Preference will be given to candidates with one year of experience in a high-volume production environment involving a perishable product, or a combination of education and experience such as one year of related experience and relevant job training courses.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry.
- The candidate should hold a valid BC driverโs licence.
- The candidate should hold a valid Lift Truck Certification.
- The candidate should be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
