Job Description

  • The candidate must evaluate the effectiveness of social programs.
  • The candidate must interview clients individually, in families, or in groups to assess their situations and determine the types of services required.
  • The candidate must investigate cases of child abuse or neglect.
  • The candidate must provide mediation services.
  • The candidate must perform administrative tasks.
  • The candidate must provide counselling and therapy to help clients resolve social and personal problems.
  • The candidate must plan programs of assistance for clients.
  • The candidate must refer clients to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment, and other services.
  • The candidate must provide public education and consultation regarding counselling services, issues, and methods.
  • The candidate must serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team working with a client group.
  • The candidate must advocate for solutions to problems affecting client groups.
  • The candidate must conduct social research.
  • The candidate must evaluate the effectiveness of counselling and client outcomes.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must be bilingual.
  • The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 2 to 3 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have membership in a provincial association of social workers.

Work setting

  • The candidate must work in a community service organization, performing unpaid work for the benefit and betterment of the community without any form of compensation.
  • The candidate must work in a social and family service agency.
