Farm Supervisor

Pristine Prairie Organics based in SW-12-07-25-W1, PO Box 297 Pipestone, MB R0M 1T0 is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Farm Supervisor who are self-motivated and have good interpersonal skills. Pristine Prairie Organics is a family-run farm dedicated to producing the healthiest beef possible while also doing our part to protect the environment. There are no artificial fertilisers, chemicals used in feed or crop production on our farm, and our cattle are free of growth hormones and antibiotics.

The Organic Producers Association of Manitoba has certified us as organic. We are currently offering two types of beef: grass fed and grain fed. The candidate who got selected will be required to start work as soon as possible. The vacancies refer to Permanent employment or Full time job. The position of Farm Supervisor has been approved by the LMIA.

Job Description

  • The candidate should be able to perform general farm duties.
  • The candidate should be responsible in managing overall operations of farm.
  • The candidate should have knowledge and capability to operate farm machinery and equipment.
  • The candidate will be required to maintain quality control and production records
  • The candidate will be required to co-ordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers
  • The candidate will be required to develop work schedules and establish procedures
  • The candidate will be required to supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations
  • The candidate will be required to carry out repair and maintenance work for farm machinery and equipment if and when required.
  • The candidate should be proficient in handling farm machineries like Tractor, Farm truck etc.
  • The candidate would be responsible for maintaining work records and logs.
  • The candidate will be expected to keep track of the inventory of stored materials.
  • The candidate should ensure farm activities comply with government regulations.
  • The candidate should ensure uninterrupted water supply to the farm.
  • The candidate should be responsible in maintaining financial and production records of the farm.
  • The candidate will be expected to analyse current operations, crops, livestock, staff, and financial documents and make recommendations for improvements.
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing planting and harvesting plans and schedules, as well as ensuring that staff understands expectations.
  • The candidate will be required to visit various divisions to inspect crops and livestock, as well as perform soil and water tests.
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and other supplies are restocked on a regular basis.
  • The candidate will be expected to install, maintain, and monitor the irrigation system on a regular basis.
  • The candidate will be in charge of marketing and selling farm products such as fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat, and grain.
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all employees follow health and safety regulations.
  • The candidate will be expected to supervise and oversee crop-growing operations.
  • The candidate will be expected to help with the recruitment and training of new employees.
  • The candidate will be expected to build professional networks and stay up to date on agricultural science developments.
  • The candidate must understand the implications of the weather and devise contingency plans.
  • The candidate will be expected to ensure that deadlines for activities such as seeding and harvesting are met.
  • The candidate must maintain knowledge of pests and diseases, as well as an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring staff rosters, hours, and performance, as well as resolving any grievances.
  • The candidate will be expected to supervise the work of farming units and make suggestions for improvements and changes.
  • The candidate will be expected to assist and supervise the day-to-day activities of general farm workers.
  • The candidate should be responsible for maintaining adequate stock for animal foods, medicines etc.
  • The candidate should regularly monitor animal health
  • The candidate will be required to ensure that farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed
  • The candidate will be responsible for supervising and overseeing breeding and other livestock-related programmes.

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • The ideal candidate should have a minimum 1 to 2 years of working experience in similar industry.
  • The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication.
  • The candidate must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
