Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for reviewing and processing various documents related to different types of permits, applications, building inspections, and approvals, scheduling inspections, and creating and maintaining data files and systems.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure the effective operation of the Planning and Building Department.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting customers at the counter and over the phone by providing detailed information on zoning and building regulations, water services, policies, procedures, building permit processes, inspection requirements, GIS mapping systems, and the roles of other departments and agencies.
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring application documents are accurate and complete, explaining deficiencies and acceptance requirements, calculating applicable fees, issuing permits, and confirming payment of all fees and charges.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must be a strong communicator with a service-oriented approach and the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • The candidate must have strong knowledge and proficiency in using MS Office 365 applications.
  • The candidate must have completed high school graduation with introductory technical courses related to the work, along with considerable related experience, or possess an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • The candidate must have considerable knowledge of departmental and divisional procedures, bylaws, rules, and regulations related to the work performed.
  • The candidate must have considerable knowledge of development, zoning, utilities, building, and licensing bylaws and regulations related to the work performed.
  • The candidate must have sound knowledge of the responsibilities of other departments and outside agencies as they relate to the work performed.
  • The candidate must be able to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts while processing inquiries and providing information and related services.
  • The candidate must be able to work effectively with manual and electronic data management systems.
  • The candidate must be able to read and understand plans and drawings related to the work performed.
  • The candidate must be able to prepare and maintain reports, maps, records, and related materials required for the work performed.
  • The candidate must be able to perform assigned duties independently with minimal supervision.
