Job Description
- The Design Technologist position supports city planning projects through visual design, mapping and architectural presentation work.
- This is a full time permanent position based at Etobicoke Civic Centre with a Monday to Friday 35 hour work week.
- The role includes preparing visual content for planning projects and public consultation activities.
- Staff work in a creative office environment with design software, mapping tools and planning documents.

Responsibilities
- Prepare documents, presentations, displays, graphics, maps and 3D models for print and digital distribution.
- Review and maintain Official Plan and Zoning By law mapping materials.
- Retrieve, organize and translate information from different file formats and data sources.
- Work with internal and external technical, legal and professional teams to gather graphic content for projects.
- Provide support during public consultation events and planning activities.
Requirements
- Post secondary education in applied design, technology or a related field is required or an equivalent mix of education and work history.
- Has worked in applied design fields like architectural technology, planning technology, visualization, graphic design or GIS is required.
- Skilled in software used for publishing, visualization and mapping such as Adobe Creative Suite, ESRI, SketchUp and AutoDesk.
- Work history producing maps, graphics, plans, 3D models and design displays related to planning and urban design concepts is required.
- Strong interaction skills and can maintain positive working relationships with fellow workers and clients.
- Skilled in design presentation methods including typography, colour use and graphic layout for readability.
- Strong knowledge of reading architectural plans and topographic maps.
- Can plan processes, knowledge of zoning by-laws and the Official Plan.
- You need knowledge of AODA, plus the Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations and the related workplace requirements.
