Job Description

  • The candidate must operate buses, school buses, or streetcars to transport passengers.
  • The candidate must load and unload the vehicle.
  • The candidate must direct passengers during emergency evacuation procedures.
  • The candidate must operate para-transit vehicles.
  • The candidate must deal with the public.
  • The candidate must handle difficult passengers and resolve conflicts.
  • The candidate must communicate with passengers, dispatchers, or other drivers using two-way radio systems.
  • The candidate must ensure the safety of children when they board and leave the bus, and when they cross the street while the bus stops.
  • The candidate must maintain control of student activities during travel to prevent distractions or behaviors that could compromise safety.
  • The candidate must perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections and oversee all aspects of the vehicle.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation or equivalent experience.
  • The ideal candidate must have 5+ years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have a Class 2/2F/C License (buses with more than passengers), Class 5/5F/G License (cars, small trucks, and other 2-axle vehicles), Air Brake (Z) Endorsement Certification, and First Aid Certificate.
  • The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • The candidate should be client-focused.
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible.
  • The candidate should be reliable.

Work setting

  • The candidate should be willing to relocate and be ready to move to a new city/different city for a job.

Experience and specialization

Type of experience

  • The candidate must have experience as a tour and charter bus driver and in operating buses.

Transportation/travel experience

  • The candidate must have transportation and travel experience at the local, regional, provincial/territorial, national, and international levels.

  • The candidate must undergo a criminal record check, driving record check (abstract), drug test, and medical exam for security and safety purposes.

Transportation/travel information

  • The candidate must provide a driver’s abstract.
  • The candidate’s travel expenses will be covered by the employer.
  • The candidate must have a valid driver’s license.
  • The employer will provide the candidate with a vehicle.
