Job Description
- Candidates for this post are appointed to operate mechanical equipment attached to vehicles/equipment safely and efficiently.
- They’re appointed to lift and load garbage, recyclable materials, organics, organic yard waste and special pick-up items such as household appliances, discarded furniture, wood, carpet and electronics.
- Candidates are appointed to operate 2-way radio or mobile phones working at this post.
- They’re also required to perform other duties at this wage grade level or lower such as laboring type duties, maintenance and cleaning activities when not operating assigned vehicles or equipment.
- Candidates for this post are appointed to perform work in a safe, efficient and courteous manner.
- They’re also required to place empty carts and containers back at the set-out location in a tidy manner.
- Candidates are appointed to assist the operator by signaling a vehicle which is being maneuvered or backed up when on a crew of 2 persons.
Job requirement
- They must possess and maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “D” Driver’s License with “Z” endorsement and must qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
- Candidates must be familiar with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations for the safe performance of their duties and responsibilities to be eligible for this post.
- They must have a good driving record and familiarity with the location of major city streets.
- Candidates may be required to do shift work in conformance with the Collective Agreement to be eligible for this post.
- They must attain the ability to use or learn to use various technical devices related to the position to be eligible for this post.

- Candidates must attain the ability to deal courteously with the public and ability to communicate about their job duties.
