Job Description
- Candidates working at this post are appointed to work under the direction of a Regional Planning Manager (RPM) Planner 1 is primarily responsible for responding to enquiries and processing a variety of current planning applications and referrals.
- They’re also appointed to undertake planning-related research and liaise with other Islands Trust or external agency staff regarding planning, mapping or other issues.
- Candidates working in this post are also appointed to prepare reports for and make presentations to a Local Trust Committee.
- Candidates are also responsible for interaction with administrative staff to ensure communication, reporting and facilitation of meetings and events working at this post.
- Candidates are also accountable for performing the duties of a Planner 2 in an acting capacity when requested by a Regional Planning Manager.
- They’re also responsible to the Regional Planning Manager and report the work report to them.
Job requirement
- Candidates must attain a university degree in planning or a related field such as geography or urban studies, and at least one year of planning experience, preferably in local government.
- They must have dedicated experience working in a BC local government planning office to be eligible for this post.
- Candidates must have dedicated experience processing development permits, development variance permits, non-complex bylaw amendments, and others to be eligible for this post.
- They must have dedicated experience working with First Nations and rural communities.
- Candidates must be good at advanced visual communication or graphics skills.
- They are also required to ensure their eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners to be eligible for this post.
