Nursery worker

Sloan’s Nursery & Christmas Trees situated in Bothwell, ON is seeking applications for the job position of Nursery worker who are enthusiastic and possess excellent interpersonal skills. The successful candidate for this position is expected to start work as quickly as possible. The role being offered is Seasonal employment or Full time job. The shift timings for this position include the Day and Weekend. The position of Nursery worker has received approval from the LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment).

Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for cutting horticultural crops.
  • The candidate will be responsible for shearing Christmas trees.
  • The candidate must assist in the pruning of trees, shrubs, and plants.
  • The candidate must pot and re-pot plants.
  • The candidate must be able to transplant seedlings or rooted cuttings.
  • The candidate must apply fertilizers.
  • The candidate must dig up wrapping rootballs of trees and shrubs.
  • The candidate must clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens, and other work areas.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • Candidate having experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must be able to lift more than 45 kg (100 lbs)
  • The candidate should be reliable.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.

Work site environment

  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
  • The candidate must be able to work in wet/damp, hot, and cold/refrigerated conditions.

Work setting

  • The candidate should work in a rural area; most people live or work on farms or ranches. Hamlets, villages, towns, and other small settlements are in or surrounded by rural areas.

  • The candidate must be willing to work long hours in bending, crouching, and kneeling positions.
  • The candidate will be expected to manage a large workload.
  • The candidate should have an eye for details.
  • The candidate must have excellent hand eye coordination.

Own tools/equipment

  • The candidate must have steel-toed safety boots and gloves.
